The text is drawn with the fonts on your device. The original text and fonts are kept. A watermark is a mark, not protection. Files are processed in your browser and never sent to a server.

How to use

Lays a see-through word such as "CONFIDENTIAL" over the pages of a PDF. Place it once in the middle or tile it across the page, and set colour, angle, size and opacity. The text and fonts of the original are left alone. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

When to use it

  • Marking a circulating draft so it never gets mistaken for the final version.
  • Adding "Confidential" or a company name to material that leaves the building.
  • Writing the recipient into each copy of a quote so you know where a leak came from.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF (up to 200 pages, 50MB) and type the watermark text.
  2. Pick the layout — once in the centre, or tiled across the page.
  3. Set colour, angle, size (% of page width) and opacity, then page through the preview.
  4. Choose which pages and press Save as PDF.

Good to know

  • A watermark is a marking, not protection. Anyone determined can remove it, so do not rely on it to stop a leak.
  • The text is drawn as a picture using a font from your device. Any language works without shipping font files, but the watermark text itself cannot be selected or searched. The body text is unaffected.
  • Size goes up to 80% of the page width and the angle up to 90 degrees.
  • Your original is untouched; the watermarked copy comes as a new file.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make the watermark impossible to remove?

No. Anything laid onto a PDF can be taken off again, and no tool truly prevents that — which is why this one calls it a marking. If something really must not get out, the only answer is not to hand over the file.

The watermark hides the text underneath.

Lower the opacity and the text shows through. Tiling puts far more ink on the page than a single centred mark, so it usually needs to be fainter.

Does it work with Korean, Japanese or Chinese?

Yes. The text is drawn with a font already on your device, so any language works without loading font files. The exact shapes may differ slightly from one device to another.

Can I use a logo instead of text?

This tool handles text only. To lay a logo or a stamp image over a PDF, use the PDF stamp tool — it offers the same control over size, position and opacity.

Can I mark only the first page?

Yes, choose First page under which pages. Last page and custom lists such as 1, 3-5 work too.
