What's inside

Choose a photo to see what it carries.

    Save

The picture is not re-compressed. Quality stays exactly as it was.

    How to use

A photo file carries more than the picture: the camera, the date, and on a phone usually the place it was taken (GPS). This tool shows exactly what is in there and gives you a copy with those parts cut out. The picture is not re-compressed, so quality does not change. Everything happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

    When to use it

    • Posting to a marketplace or forum without revealing where you live.
    • Stripping device details from photos taken on company equipment.
    • Simply checking what a photo you received is carrying.

    How to use it

    1. Choose a photo — JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 30MB.
    2. What it holds appears as a table: maker, model, lens, serial number, time taken, location, rotation.
    3. If a location is present, you get a clear warning.
    4. Press Download the cleaned photo to get a copy without those parts.

    Good to know

    • No re-compression. The image data is left byte for byte and only the metadata is cut out, so quality is untouched. The common "save it again" approach costs you a generation of JPG quality.
    • The rotation flag is put back. Phone photos store a "show this upright" flag; removing everything would leave the picture sideways. For JPG a 36-byte block holding only that flag is written back — no device, no location.
    • The ICC colour profile is kept, because removing it changes how the colours look. The screen says so too.
    • For PNG and WebP the rotation flag goes as well. If the photo then looks turned, rotate it first with the image rotator.
    • Only JPG, PNG and WebP are handled; anything else is reported as unknown rather than guessed at.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is EXIF?

It is a record stored inside the photo file: camera maker and model, lens, the time it was taken, settings, and on a phone the location. You do not see it when you look at the photo, but anyone who receives the file can read it.

    Does the quality drop?

No. This tool never redraws or re-saves the picture; it cuts the metadata out of the file.

Why is the rotation flag kept?

Phone photos store a "show this upright" flag in EXIF. Remove everything and the photo appears sideways, so for JPG a minimal block holding only that flag is written back.

Do social networks not strip this anyway?

It depends on the service. Some strip it, some pass the original through. Sending the original file over a messenger or attaching it to an email usually keeps everything. Removing it yourself first is the certain way.

Can the data be restored afterwards?

No. Your original file is left alone and the cleaned copy is a new file, so keep the original if you need the shooting record.

Can it hide a face or a licence plate?

That means changing the picture itself, which is what the photo cover tool does. Pixelate or black out the area there, and the EXIF disappears with the re-save.
